CARROLL INTERNS

About the role

The Carroll Interns program provides vital experience to graduate-level students studying in the field of vision education and allied professions. It assists with the placement of vision educators whose ranks have declined despite an increasing population of individuals who are blind or have low vision. Participants are equipped with essential experience and knowledge to prepare them for community-based services. Interns gain access to the expertise of over 45 vision rehabilitation professionals at the Carroll Center, supervised by staff based on their chosen areas of training.

Responsibilities

• Work with clients of varying ages and abilities, including those with additional disabilities.
• Participate in community and campus-based internships with certified staff.
• Gain hands-on experience in various aspects of vision rehabilitation and related fields.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a graduate-level program focusing on vision education or allied professions.
• Passing grade in prerequisite courses relevant to vision education.
• Strong interest in working with individuals who are blind or have low vision.
• Ability to commit to a full-time internship period.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using technology and software relevant to vision rehabilitation.
• Passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals with visual impairments.

Skills

• Knowledge of teaching methods and materials for visually impaired students.
• Experience with orientation and mobility techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
