Carpenter/Painter I - FT, Days
About the Role
This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of carpentry and painting. The Carpenter/Painter will learn skills necessary to perform coating applications, door and hardware maintenance, basic carpentry repairs, work practices, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role supports mid-sized and large hospital campuses, maintaining and repairing various architectural finishes throughout the hospital and other medical buildings. The position ensures a safe working environment and supports an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.
Responsibilities
- Perform coating applications, door and hardware maintenance, and basic carpentry repairs.
- Learn and apply safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and repair architectural finishes in hospital and medical buildings.
- Utilize basic tools and equipment for carpentry and painting tasks.
- Communicate effectively with customers and follow instructions.
- Prioritize work assignments and manage time and materials efficiently.
- Complete work assignments with high quality at the lowest cost to Mercy.
- Achieve department goals through exceptional customer service.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License for all Mercy locations.
- Fire door maintenance training program with certificate of completion (required before advancing to Carpenter/Painter II).
- UL fire stop training with certificate of completion (required before advancing to Carpenter/Painter II).
- 1 or more years of experience working as a carpenter and/or painter.
- Oral and written communication skills to follow instructions and interact with customers.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair.
- Ability to prioritize work and conceptualize finished products.
- Form perception for measuring and installing parts/equipment.
- Spatial ability to understand blueprints or specifications.
- Proficiency in computer software such as Outlook, TMS, and/or Nuvolo.
- General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude.
- Must pass oral and written competency exam prior to advancing to Carpenter/Painter II.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise may occur.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
- 1 or more years of experience as a painter and/or carpenter in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.
- Training in NFPA 80 regulations for fire door inspection and maintenance.
- Training in UL standards for fire stopping.
