Examples Of Duties
- Estimates and requisitions materials needed to complete project.
- Determines layout of project.
- Completes project according to blueprints or drawings.
- Installs and repairs asphalt, rubber, metal, tile, slate, and shingle roofs.
- Installs and repairs gutters, flashing, sheeting, fascia, roof vents, drains, and other roof-mounted appliances or accessories.
- Removes and constructs wood, metal, and masonry walls.
- Replaces or constructs door jambs and windows.
- Installs sheet rock, plaster, and paneling.
- Installs or replaces a variety of tile and panels to walls, floors, and ceilings.
- Installs or replaces wood and synthetic trim, including door casings, moldings, and weather stripping.
- Lays out, constructs, installs, and repairs cabinets, furniture, and furniture systems.
- Uses woodworking tools and machinery to cut and shape wood.
- Applies formica and veneers.
- Leads and instructs lesser skilled workers.
Qualifications
- Four years' experience in general carpentry.
- Related training may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.
- Experience in the roofing trade is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
- Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice.
- Employees may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.
- The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, the lifting and carrying of heavy objects, and the operation of machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Some positions may require travel between work sites.
- Some duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as airborne particulate matter and inclement weather.
