About the role

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Carpenter to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, while conforming to local building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for material requirements and dimensions.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
  • Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
  • Builds stairs and installs partitions and cabinet work.
  • Covers subfloor with building paper and lays hardwood, parquet, or wood-strip-block floors.
  • Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • May weld metal parts to steel structural members.
  • May specialize in finish carpentry, such as installing trim, building stairs, or laying hardwood floors.
  • May erect frame buildings and perform general carpentry in residential construction.
  • May remove and replace sections of structures before and after installation of insulating materials.
  • May perform carpentry work in construction of walk-in freezers and environmental test chambers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of general construction experience, including exposure to carpentry and/or concrete work.
  • Experience operating equipment and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools, materials, and other equipment used on construction sites.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures specific to labor work, including OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check in compliance with federal regulation.
  • Ability to work overtime and some weekends as required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay

$24.42 - $37.89 per hour + per diem for travelers 95+ miles from the job site.

Schedule

This position requires onsite presence at one of our project sites in the Texas region.
