Carpenter Assistant
Summary/Objective
The ideal Carpenter Assistant would be an experienced woodworker with experience in creating high-quality wooden structures and will be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Functions
- Must be able to perform light carpentry and surface preparation including putty filling and sanding
- Assist Carpenters, Cabinet Makers, Wood Carvers as needed
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and follow safety protocols
- Maintain a professional appearance and personal hygiene to ensure a safe, clean, and pleasant working environment
- Assemble units squarely and within dimensional tolerances
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and procedures, including proper handling and application for various projects
- Proficient in using common hand tools
- Knowledge of operating a table saw and chop saw
- Basic understanding of woodworking principles
- Familiarity with sanding techniques for both wood and solid surfaces
- Knowledge of woodworking tools, carpentry machinery, and basic furniture tools
Qualifications
- Capable of lifting up to 70 lbs
- Eager to learn the carpentry trade
- Owns your own basic carpenter and safety tools, and equipment
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience in preparing solid wood a plus
- Punctual, safety oriented and cleanliness
- Able to handle physical workload and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills. Bilingual a plus (Spanish)
- Eager to take on responsibility with a personal sense of accountability
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing and production floor environment. At times, machines and hand tools may create noise exposure that is within sound level parameters.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time, some sitting, some walking
- Repeats much of the physical motions throughout the shift that may include the use of their feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Operates a variety of equipment and hand tools in a repetitive manner requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and close visual attention
- The employee must be able to carry and/or lift up to 50 lbs. if needed
