About the role
The role holder will be responsible for the safe and efficient build-up and break-down of freight pallets. You will interpret airway bills, bills of landing, and freight manifests to sort freight effectively via forklift to storage racks, shelves, or bins in designated storage areas. The handling and storage of dangerous goods may also be required. You will drive and operate small specialized commercial vehicles, requiring a valid driver’s license. A safe and secure work environment must be maintained in accordance with local health, safety, and security policies and procedures. Cross-training is provided, and you may work in other areas of the operation. Classroom and on-the-job training are included before starting.
Responsibilities
- Read air waybill, bills of landing, or freight manifest to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Convey freight from receiving areas to storage or other designated areas using a forklift or transporter.
- Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as consignee or destination.
- Sort and store dangerous goods in the proper area.
- Fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distribute items to other locations.
- Open bales, crates, and other containers for break-down.
- Record count of items received or distributed.
- Weigh and count items for distribution within the warehouse to ensure conformance to company standards and air waybill.
- Perform cargo build-up and/or breakdown, freight to and/or from skids, pallets, or ULDs.
- Ensure work areas are clean and hazard-free of loose nets, straps, etc.
- Practice all company Safety Policies, including wearing PPE, safe equipment operation, safe lifting procedures, and obeying speed limits when driving company vehicles and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Current driver’s license with no violations over the past 5 years.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Available and flexible to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
- Must pass a driver’s test with the Department of Airports and obtain a driver’s license to drive on Airport Operational Area (AOA).
- Must pass an FBI background check and obtain a custom seal.
- Able to lift at least 75 pounds on a continuous basis.
- Must pass pre-employment medical and drug test.
