About the role

The role is for a 11 year old girl who lives with her mum and older brother in Crosby. She has Downs Syndrome, Autism (PDA profile) and complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Always needs monitoring
• Communicates verbally, struggles with diction and has a limited vocabulary for her age
• Familiarity with the girl creates increased understanding
• She is having surgery in July/August which will mean she will be wheelchair bound during her recovery period, with physio to assist her to get back onto her feet
• Needs assistance when having a shower or bath
• Encouraged to learn to wash her hair and assisted with it
• Cannot brush her own hair yet, and it's important that she is encouraged to try to brush her own hair first before it is brushed by a carer and that she is shown how to do it herself each time it is done
• Loves art and going to the park and even more so the zoo for which she has a pass which covers two carers
• Loves food but needs to be encouraged to make good choices in respect of food and to have set mealtimes
• Has homework from School which she needs full support with
• Can become dysregulated at times, but is a happy, confident girl who knows her own mind
• It would be helpful if the applicants could drive owing to her love for outdoor activities

Requirements

• A DBS is required, and you will NOT be able to provide the support until this has cleared

• Understanding of Down Syndrome and Autism (PDA profile)
• Ability to assist with personal care tasks such as toileting, bathing, and hair washing
• Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively with the child
• Patience and empathy
• Ability to manage a busy schedule including weekends
• Experience driving is helpful but not essential

Pay

£12.75 per hour

Schedule
