Caregiver or CNA

Works under the supervision of the Home Services Coordinator to contribute to the client's comfort and safety in the home.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and follow a written Plan of Care and document tasks performed
• Self-directed with minimal supervision
• Dependability, tact, patience, and ability to follow instructions
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Experience in cleaning, laundry, medication reminders, and escort services
• 1 year of caregiver experience; CNA preferred

Responsibilities

• Observe client functioning and report changes to supervisor
• Attend to client requests promptly
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal care
• Provide companionship, socialization, and housekeeping services
• Assist with medication reminding:
  • Inquire whether medications were taken
  • Verbally prompt to take medications
  • Hand the appropriately marked medication reminder container to the client
  • Open the container if the client is physically unable
• Assist with meal planning, food purchase, and food preparation
• Help clients live in a clean and safe environment:
  • Clean bathrooms and kitchen, including stove and refrigerator
  • Run personal errands per client and agency request
  • Handle laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and changing bed linens
• Follow infection control policies, including proper hand washing techniques
• Maintain communication with supervisory staff and interdisciplinary team
• Document care and observations accurately
• Treat clients and families with respect and maintain confidentiality
• Accept and fulfill assignments with the agency
• Attend required in-service programs per agency policy

Restrictions

• Shall not act as Power of Attorney
• Shall not be involved in client financial transactions outside contracted services
• Shall not perform medication setup for a client
• Shall not provide skilled skin care or skilled dressing; clients needing these services must be under a licensed home health agency or nursing home
