About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Careers Leader to embed and oversee a stable, structured careers programme in our academy. This role is crucial in ensuring our careers education and guidance meets the Gatsby Benchmarks and supports students, parents, teachers, governors, and employers in understanding and accessing career opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate a structured careers programme with explicit backing from the senior management team.
• Ensure the careers programme is published on the school’s website and accessible to students, parents, teachers, and employers.
• Regularly evaluate the programme using feedback from students, parents, teachers, and employers.
• Provide good quality career and labour market information to students and parents, supporting informed decision-making by age 14.
• Tailor advice and support to the needs of each student, challenging stereotypical thinking and raising aspirations.
• Maintain systematic records of individual advice given to students and their subsequent decisions, ensuring students have access to these records.
• Collect and maintain accurate data on students’ education, training, or employment destinations for at least three years after they leave school.
• Integrate careers and enterprise education into standard lessons, linking curriculum learning to real-world career paths, with a focus on STEM subjects.
• Facilitate encounters with employers and employees, ensuring students participate in at least one meaningful encounter annually from age 11.
• Organise workplace experiences for students by age 16 and again by age 18, in addition to any part-time jobs they may hold.
• Provide encounters with further and higher education institutions, ensuring students are aware of potential professions and study options.
• Offer personal guidance interviews with a trained careers adviser for all students by age 16, with opportunities for further interviews by age 18.
• Work with the regional local enterprise advisor to align the careers programme with the strategic plan of the region.
• Promote and facilitate virtual work experiences and career exploration opportunities across various industries, including oil and gas, engineering, architecture, and more.

Performance

Our academy has consistently met 100% of the assessment area for careers provision, compared to a national average of 52%. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving this high standard.
