Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the academic instructors, evening studies coordinator, scheduling/testing coordinator and secretary.
  • Responsible for the management of academic programs in compliance with government and management directives.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.
  • Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, implement department and personnel changes as approved by the deputy center director and coordinated with the manager, human resources prior to implementation.
  • Develop the departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting career counseling and career preparation; coordinate with other departments to promote center objectives.
  • Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare audit and assessment reports.
  • Develop and implement an effective career counseling program; assign each counselor a caseload consistent with guidelines; oversee administrative functions, such as adequate record keeping, and maintenance of schedules.
  • Ensure case notes are entered regularly in CIS and that required documentation is up to date.
  • Participate in the training of center staff as coordinated with the manager, human resources; conduct training for residential staff in counseling techniques, group facilitation skills and provide support in the operation of the career success standards (CSS) training program.
  • Maintain collaborative system of communication between career counseling, center staff and outside community services to facilitate student progress and performance; evaluate all center counseling components and recommend modifications.
  • Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems; evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted.
  • Coordinate student assessment panels, scheduling, and monitoring.
  • Coordinate with health and wellness staff on mental health, and health and wellness services for students.
  • Coordinate retention program and all others designed for special needs students.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center which is free of harassment, intimidation and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services related instruction, and three years experience in counseling or related field required, two of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience working with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency also required.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree, including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services related instruction, and three years experience in counseling or related field required, two of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience: Experience working with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer proficiency also required.

Pay

$58,500 - 60,500 annually/ based on experience.
