About the role

The Career Marketplace seeks a Support Staff to provide individual and group career development services to Tri-C students and alumni, assisting them in obtaining employment. This role collaborates with faculty and instructors to integrate career-related assignments and events into the curriculum, and works with employers to source experiential learning opportunities and employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches Tri-C students and alumni on internship and job search strategies, including the elevator pitch, networking skills, informational interviews, mock interviews, resume, and cover letter reviews, along with other career development tools and strategies.
  • Provides individual coaching to students to create customized, long-term career development plans, develop key competencies necessary to make informed decisions, and take the necessary steps to achieve their career goals.
  • Develops content, conducts workshops, and class informational sessions on a variety of topics such as career exploration, resume writing, interviewing, internships/job search strategies, networking tactics, and ethics in the workplace.
  • Works directly with faculty and instructors from Schools and aligning Academies to integrate career exploration activities and assignments into the curriculum.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with faculty, and, upon their request, facilitates an overview of Career Marketplace services and resources to academic program classes.
  • Gathers and reports data for Career Marketplace regarding coaching appointments, classroom presentations, workshops, internships, and part- and full-time employment.
  • Supports student success and engagement efforts at each campus by involvement in enrollment activities, retention initiatives, and other campus events.
  • Identifies employers that provide experiential learning opportunities, part-time, and full-time employment for students.
  • Proactively cultivates relationships with small, mid-size, and large employers and emerging growth industries; positively maintains all associated relationships, building a “book of business” generating experiential learning and job leads.
  • Drives the use of the Career Marketplace online job posting network as a recruiting resource for employers.
  • Uses Handshake CRM for case management and communications.
  • Promotes all of the College’s talent pipelines to employers and emerging growth industries.
  • Designs and coordinates networking initiatives, special events, and career fairs that assist students and alumni in finding employment opportunities.
  • Conducts employer satisfaction surveys and recommends program upgrades and enhancements based on employer feedback.
  • Represents Career Marketplace office to a wide variety of community organizations, professional associations, government agencies, non-profit entities, and partners in higher education to provide a professional presence supporting the College’s brand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Significant related experience may substitute for education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in a progressively accountable role related to talent acquisition, staffing/placement, employee development, career coaching/consulting, and/or fields related to career development services.
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team.
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of career services concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficient use of a variety of internet tools and social networking sites as an employment sourcing tool.
  • Effective in a dynamic and changing work environment requiring flexibility and a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Able to adjust to changing priorities and respond appropriately to deadlines.
  • Intermediate project management skills.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with the Microsoft Suite.
  • Confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity.
  • Ability to collaborate, persuade, and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects.
  • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of students and the community.

Target Starting Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000

Schedule

Standard College Hours: M-F, 8:30am-5pm May also require occasional evening or weekend hours for events.
