About the role

The Career Services Coordinator is a member of the Workforce, Career, and Experiential Learning team at FLCC. The role involves developing, coordinating, and administering all activities and programs related to Career Services. Responsibilities include directing career services, planning and presenting workshops, organizing career fairs, collaborating with academic departments, providing career counseling, and utilizing information technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop outreach strategies for undecided students and schedule activities to support them in choosing a major.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to enhance career services in various disciplines.
  • Provide individual and group career counseling services to students, alumni, and community members.
  • Conduct career assessments on an individual and group basis.
  • Establish strong relationships with area employers to provide internship and employment opportunities for students.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employers seeking to advertise internships and employment opportunities.
  • Support employer on-campus recruitment activities and design workshops to facilitate career exploration.
  • Keep up-to-date with technologies supporting student job search efforts and provide career and job availability information.
  • Respond to requests from members of the College community for information about employment trends and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with institutional research to collect, organize, and analyze student and graduate data.
  • Participate in recruitment activities and support campus objectives for retention and completion.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget for Career Services.
  • Maintain the Career Services web site and resource library.
  • Organize and chair a career services advisory committee.
  • Offer classroom presentations as requested by faculty.
  • Engage with community, regional, and state associations to promote FLCC career opportunities.
  • Demonstrate and implement new programming as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, or related field required.
  • Certification in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and experience with Strong Interest Inventory required.
  • Experience with Strengths Quest, DiSC, or similar tools preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in higher education career counseling, working with students, faculty, alumni, and employer populations required; experience in a community college setting is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required, including internet skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and computerized student database.
  • Knowledge of career development theory and practice, job outlook trends & forecasts, employer relations, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, and resume/correspondence writing required.
  • Experience with career advising, coaching, and workforce education counseling, required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong verbal, written, and public presentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Master's degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, or related field required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years' experience in higher education career counseling, working with students, faculty, alumni, and employer populations required; experience in a community college setting is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Computer proficiency required, including internet skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, and computerized student database.
  • Professional Skills: Knowledge of career development theory and practice, job outlook trends & forecasts, employer relations, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, and resume/correspondence writing required; experience with career advising, coaching, and workforce education counseling, required.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Established record of excellent leadership and mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty required.

Benefits and Salary Range

  • Competitive starting salary in the range of $54,388 to $57,107 and is commensurate with qualifications.
  • A flexible work schedule is available upon successful completion of training.
  • This position follows a hybrid model, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
  • NYS retirement or Optional SUNY Retirement Program.
