Career Navigator - DOL Grant

About the Role

The Career Navigator assists individual students to attain and keep competitive employment that aligns with their vocational goals. The Vocational Specialist provides guidance and support to help students make informed career choices.

Responsibilities

• Conducts orientation/interviews with each student to evaluate skills, work history, and personality.
• Develops an individual career plan and training plan for each new student, incorporating input from the student, family members, or past employers (with permission).
• Teaches a required job class focused on job readiness skills.
• Assists students with long-term employment goals by considering work history, strengths, personal culture, and vocational objectives.
• Engages with students to build collaborative, trusting relationships aimed at securing competitive employment in community settings.
• Posts weekly job listings from local and surrounding areas.
• Provides information on community activities, social events, and professional development workshops.
• Travels frequently for employer- and home-visits to monitor students' attendance, work performance, and evaluations.
• Builds rapport with community businesses, universities, and community colleges.
• Maintains student records and data on work and volunteer hours.
• Provides weekly reports on community services, developments, and employment work percentages.
• Performs other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Certification/licensure in an appropriate teaching area.
• Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in teaching assignment.

Working Conditions

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The employee may interact with students who exhibit behavioral risks.

Supervision

Occasional, minimal guidance is provided; the role follows established work methods. No direct reports are associated with this position.
