Career Development (Work-Study) Teacher
About the role
The Career Development (Work Study) Teacher coordinates a comprehensive work study and career development program that provides students with valuable work experiences and implements a post-secondary curriculum to optimize career readiness. This commitment aligns with Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to quality instruction, academic proficiency for all students, and closing the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.
Responsibilities
- Directs and oversees the school’s work experience and career development program.
- Locates, investigates, and establishes community job placement opportunities suitable for participating students.
- Serves as a liaison between Framingham High School, local businesses, and industry partners in collaboration with school counseling.
- Affords assistance to students in job applications, interviews, and obtaining employment opportunities within the community for the program.
- Assists in planning and execution of career fairs and other events/initiatives related to career development in collaboration with the Student Success Academy & School Counseling Department.
- Plans and delivers work-study curriculum focused on post-secondary planning, career exploration, vocational skills, workplace expectations, and employer-employee dynamics.
- Aligns program instructional practices with DESE College and Career Readiness standards.
- Teaches a Career Exploration & Preparation class for 10th grade students within the Student Success Academy.
- Maintains accurate, confidential student records and work performance data in compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal laws.
- Interprets and promotes the Career Development Program to school personnel, families, and community stakeholders.
- Maintains professional development through attendance at workshops and ongoing professional development relevant to career education as appropriate and approved by building administration.
Requirements
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching License In Any High School Level with SEI Endorsement.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Public education experience required, with direct experience as a classroom teacher preferred.
- Familiarity with career development, post-secondary pathway options and work-study program frameworks.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong ability to assist students with job placement, interview preparation, career exploration, and setting career goals.
- Proficiency in assessing student workplace performance, collecting program data, and maintaining accurate records to track student progress.
- Skill in working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs in an equitable, culturally responsive manner.
- Ability to utilize instructional and administrative technology (including Google Workspace and career tracking tools) effectively.
- Capacity to collaborate with school counselors, administrators, special education staff, and multidisciplinary teams to support holistic student success.
- Demonstrated competence in fostering an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all students, families, and staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for presenting to staff, parents, employers, and community stakeholders.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects independently, handle unpredictable classroom or workplace situations, and maintain appropriate confidentiality.
