About the role

The UNT Dallas College of Law invites applications for the position of Career Counselor in the Office of Career and Professional Development. The Career Counselor reports to the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes the current state of the legal services and legal job markets and forecasts emerging trends in those markets.
  • Identifies existing and up-and-coming career and job options, assesses (on a continuing basis) their short and long-term feasibility for our alumni attorneys, and explores alternatives to traditional legal practice.
  • Manages improvements, revisions, changes, and adjustments to the existing array of career consulting services, programs, and resources AND devises, develops and implements entirely new services, programs and resources.
  • Maintains and enhances his/her own professional network and leverages it on behalf of students and alumni.
  • Develops and oversees presentation and delivery of broad and complex career focused programs and events workshops, and resources.
  • Works with career services staff on specific administrative tasks.
  • Determines the most innovative and effective media for delivering content online, print, blogs, social networking website posts, twitter, live webcasting, etc.
  • Provides one-on-one, individually tailored and customer-driven career consulting/coaching/advising services to students.
  • Assists students in conducting their own self-assessments.
  • Provides students not only with general or specific career advice based on his/her expert knowledge of the legal job market but specific job leads and networking contacts to achieve students' career objectives developed through continuing cultivation and expansion of the Law School's professional network.
  • Develops and critiques law student application materials.
  • Participates in panel discussions and presentations and researches and writes articles relating to career and professional development and the legal job market.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of procedures and concepts within own discipline and a basic knowledge of these elements in other disciplines.
  • Basic knowledge of how own area integrates within the subfunction.
  • Ability to use judgement based on practice and precedence.
  • Ability to exchange information using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to consider information and data from multiple sources, evaluate the information quickly, and draw accurate conclusions for best possible resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • J.D. Degree.
  • One year of experience in the legal profession.
  • Advanced knowledge of career development theories.
  • Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice, workshop and program design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of UNT Dallas College of Law programs.

Qualifications

  • Required License/Registration/Certifications: None.

Skills
