The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing student support, services, and educational programs. With over 300 full-time employees and 1,200 student workers, the Division supports student success through environments that enhance development, engagement, belonging, well-being, and career readiness.

The Career Counselor will advise students on their career aspirations and goals, and counsel on career readiness topics. This position will collaborate across Student Affairs and with Academic units to deliver career programs, assist recent graduates with transition into professional roles, and promote Career Services to increase engagement among students, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel students on career aspirations, goals, and career readiness topics.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic units to deliver career programs.
• Promote Career Services and increase engagement via workshops and written/virtual materials.
• Administer career-related assessments and review results.
• Plan, develop, and facilitate career development presentations for classes and student organizations.
• Coordinate with employers to deliver career development opportunities.
• Represent Career Services at divisional and university events.
• Serve as a point of contact for data collection via surveys and assessment methods.
• Develop tools and strategies to address trends in career development and Career Services programming.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Career Services or designee.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, conferred by the time of hire.
• Demonstrated knowledge of job market trends, occupational, career, and employment information sources.
• Demonstrated experience advising, coaching, or supporting individuals in academic, professional, or career-related development within educational, nonprofit, corporate, or community settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, career counseling, or related area.
• Two years of full-time experience providing career counseling, career coaching, and career advising or related student services experience in a college/university setting.
• Demonstrated skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff, faculty, employers, students, and alumni.
• Experience and proficiency with incorporating technology to deliver services.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and organizational skills.

Pay

USD 47,025-52,250 / year. Salary offered may be outside of this range as impacted by budget, UNC salary administration, and/or candidate qualifications.
