Description
Under general direction of the Cath Lab Manager, Director of Cardiovascular Services and Cath Lab Medical Director, the Cardiovascular Technician I works effectively in rendering individualized patient care to less acutely ill patients, critically and/or acutely ill patients. Patient care assignments include patient care, functioning as a scrub assistant to the physician for all diagnostic and coronary intervention procedures.
Core Competencies
- Assists the physician by preparing and passing equipment catheters, instruments, manifold/pressure monitoring system for each diagnostic procedure, including but not limited to: interventional procedure, PTCAS, stent implantations, directional atherectomy, rotational atherectomy and valvuloplasty, intraaortic balloon placement, endomyocardial biopsies, transseptal, including brachial or radial approach, sones technique.
- Maintains a sterile field throughout each procedure. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to approved techniques. Cleanses skin immediately following procedure and applies dressings to puncture sites.
- Aids in cleaning and preparing the rooms for procedures to follow.
- Participates and records notes at weekly Cath Conferences.
- Provides health care services and maintains interpersonal relationships in own job category to all age groups as applicable to job functions.
- Maintains a safe working environment: Ensures gurneys are in locked position except when transporting, ensures side rails are in up position as indicated, keeps unit free of hazards/clutter, adheres to infection control guidelines, disposes of infectious waste properly, places sharps in proper containers.
- Answers the telephone promptly and courteously and relays calls/messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
- Communicates and assists in maintaining department equipment by: removing broken equipment per policy, alerting appropriate resources of faulty/broken equipment, assuring management is aware of problem and action taken. Checks and refills supplies, identifies if last item is used.
- Aids in orienting new Cardio Vascular Technician to department, equipment, and routines.
- Maintains medication security to authorized personnel only.
- Participates in unit activities: attends unit and Medical center staff meetings/inservices, is responsible for reading and comprehending all posted minutes and memos, Hospital Performance Improvement process. Assists other team members by offering assistance to distribute the workload.

Education & Experience
- Number of Years Experience: 3
- Type of Experience: Procedural Areas; Cath Lab or ER, OR or as an EMT
Licenses / Certifications
- Basic arrhythmia and/or 12-lead ECG course or equivalent work experience
- BCLS or ACLS Certification
Compensation Range
$41.45 - 67.09/hr
