Responsibilities
- Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
- Contributes to the day-to-day clinical operations management of the assigned unit, including evaluation of interventions and clinical documentation.
- Communicates patient information, manages workload, implements physician orders, and recognizes patient care variances.
- Accountable for productivity and conducts staff development.
- Manages critical events and the Discern Notify system for daily charge issues.
- Determines staff assignments, assists in performance appraisals, rounding, and H-S-L conversations with the team.
- Acts as Patient Care Manager in their absence and supports employee retention.
- Addresses patient and/or family issues daily and ensures patient satisfaction as evidenced by HCAHPS scores.
- Conducts daily leadership rounding in conjunction with the Nurse Manager, counsels, and coaches staff.
- Develops policy and procedures and collaborates with the Non-Invasive Manager on unit scheduling, staffing needs, and approving schedule changes.
- Actively participates in unit communications to disseminate clinical and administrative information.
- Proficient use of all equipment, including computer tools used to support patient care.
- Provides clear and concise staff education to patients and significant others.
- Collaborates with the Heart Center and others to provide staff education, maintain unit-based competencies, and participate in the Annual Education process.
- Assesses the physical environment of the unit for cleanliness and safety hazards, ensuring a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Evaluates equipment and supplies for quality and effectiveness, participates in EOC as needed, and prepares/submits monthly unit PI reports.
- Maintains ICAEL accreditation and actively participates in staff meetings, coordinates in-services, and assists with education and individual unit orientation.
- Collaborates with the Non-Invasive Manager to develop and monitor the unit budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Provides assistance throughout the department and facility to resolve unmet expectations or problems.
- Actively participates in the Cardio/DI workflow of patients, physicians, and staff.
Requirements
- Proficient in the English language.
- Effective communication skills in a supportive manner with patients, staff, and physicians.
- Able to set and change priorities frequently.
- Hospital and patient care experience.
- Proficient in all competency skills for the assigned modality area.
- Ability to focus and prioritize.
- Computer skills in word processing and email (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of PACS, Cerner, Whiteboard, and associated systems (preferred).
- Customer service experience (preferred).
Qualifications
- Associate degree from a two-year hospital or college program in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging approved by the American Medical Association (required).
- 3+ years of experience performing echocardiograms (required).
- Leadership experience (preferred).
- Registered Technologist - Sonography (R.T.(S)(ARRT)) (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification (required).
