Job Summary

The Cardiovascular Invasive Technician is accountable for surgically scrubbing in and assisting with equipment. A secondary assignment includes helping Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. Responsibilities include preparing rooms and equipment, transporting and monitoring patients, and handling medications in accordance with assigned duties.

Responsibilities

• Assists Physicians with arteriograms/catheterizations, permanent pacemaker implantations, diagnostic and interventional peripheral and coronary procedures, and thrombolytic therapy.
• Prepares and maintains sterile fields for lab procedures.
• Prints film and calculates stenosis on peripheral cases.
• Circulates in procedure rooms and collects data on forms.
• Monitors patient's ECG and vital signs in the Catheterization Lab; notifies the Physician of variances.
• Provides emergency procedures like CPR and defibrillation as needed.
• Performs pre- and post-procedure care, monitors and orients patients for specials/catheterization procedures, and answers questions to help patients relax.
• Transports patients to and from procedural areas.
• Communicates relevant medical information to physicians and other staff through required documentation on specified medical record forms.
• Records, enters into data computer, and calculates catheterization data, gradients, LV grams, cardiac outputs, and peripheral stenosis.
• Follows national and state radiation protection regulations for patients, self, and staff.
• Maintains inventory of and orders procedure room supplies; ensures procedure rooms are adequately stocked and equipment is safe to use.

Requirements

• One (1) year clinical experience preferred.
• Use of basic office equipment and computer literacy required.
• Ability to multi-task and self-manage problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrates precision and flexibility.
• Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac and vascular values, instrumentation, and techniques.
• Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
• Experience: Less than 1 Year of Experience
• Certification/License/Registration:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • ACLS (ACLS): Must obtain ACLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
