Cardiovascular Genetic Counselor

About the role

This position is available for immediate hire at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). It is a full-time, in-person role based in Charleston.

Responsibilities

• Elicits medical history, family history, and constructs pedigrees to assess genetic disease risk;
• Evaluates and incorporates complex medical and genetic literature into patient counseling and management;
• Explains genetic testing options, their risks, benefits, and limitations to patients and families;
• Collaborates with genetic counselors, MD supervisors, and multidisciplinary care teams;
• Supports operations of the genetics clinic, including record review and patient charting;
• Writes detailed consultation reports on complex genetic topics;
• Collaborates on research and quality improvement projects;
• Mentors new genetic counselor hires.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program;
• Board certification by ABGC (ABGC board-eligibility required at time of hire, certification within one year is expected);
• South Carolina Genetic Counselor Licensure (or eligibility for licensure).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in medical knowledge, the ability to interpret genetic results independently, and experience in providing comprehensive genetic counseling and support services.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in managing administrative tasks are essential.
