Cardiopulmonary Technician/UKHC
Job Summary
The Cardiopulmonary Technician will primarily be responsible for the continuous monitoring and interpreting of cardiac physiological data, detecting and documenting any changes in heart rhythm and arrhythmias according to department standards, and reporting any problems to a registered nurse or physician. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will immediately review and validate alarms to reduce “false alarms” and improve detection of actual adverse events by providing a consistent method for EKG monitoring and enhancing patient safety. Additionally, the cardiopulmonary technician will be responsible for maintaining equipment to ensure proper function. This includes proper placement and function of all cables and monitors connected to patient.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time
- Working in confined spaces
- Intermittently performing tasks with repetitive motions
- Occasionally lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds
- Standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Serving as a resource to clinical areas as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality of patients, employees, and hospital related activities
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Knowledge of normal heart rhythms and basic arrhythmias
- Strong organizational skills
- The ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- The ability to follow hospital and unit policies and procedures
Preferred Education/Experience
- 1-2 years of direct experience monitoring and interpreting cardiac physiological data preferred
Shift
Must be able to work three 12 hour days (7pm-7am) shifts per week, with some weekends and holidays included.
