Backus Hospital, part of Hartford HealthCare, has been the primary source of healthcare services for Eastern Connecticut for over 118 years. It is home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and offers LIFE STAR helicopter services.
The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute is a rapidly expanding institute that brings together cardiac care specialists across six acute care hospitals, including Backus Hospital. The role involves providing direct care to patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings in collaboration with physicians, with a focus on cardiology.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings in collaboration with a physician.
- Identify diagnostic information that requires emergent attention and communicate it promptly to physician colleagues.
- Prescribe, dispense, and administer therapeutic and corrective measures in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice and collaborative relationships.
- Demonstrate a passion for cardiology and adaptability within a rapidly growing institute.
Schedule
- 4-10 hour shifts per week.
- One weekend per month.
- No night call.

Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Master’s program (preferred).
- Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Connecticut.
- Certification or eligibility for certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse through AACN or ANCC.
- 3+ years of clinical experience (cardiology experience preferred).
