Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist

About the role

Responsible for diagnostic cardiac or vascular ultrasound that results in providing the cardiologist with measurements and accurate images of cardiac structures for accurate diagnosis. Provides immediate feedback with preliminary reports of critical results to nurses and physicians for life-saving treatment intervention. Assists physicians with studies and complex procedures to decrease potential associated procedural risks, including in the OR, Hybrid lab, Cath lab, and CAD for procedures such as TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), SAVR (Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement), Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates correct technique, efficiency, and judgment in performing advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular procedures.
• Performs adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE and stress echo, and/or peripheral vascular procedures such as arterials, renals, and transcranial Doppler.
• Reviews pertinent patient data and reports before procedures.
• Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and obtain optimal diagnostic recordings; utilizes ancillary devices such as selected transducers and digital networking systems.
• Exercises appropriate judgment in notifying the reading physician of abnormal results and evaluating/reporting findings to the cardiologist.
• Assists physicians with studies and complex procedures to decrease potential procedural risks, including TAVR, SAVR, Tandem heart, Lariet procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
• Maintains proper documentation of data according to lab, departmental, and hospital policies.
• Documents all procedures accurately in the departmental tracking process and patient charts.
• Processes charging and other necessary data efficiently and accurately.
• Collaborates in maintaining departmental efficiency, anticipating equipment and supply needs, and using resources wisely to assist in cost containment.
• Schedules patients efficiently.
• Supports unit/hospital goals through QA and educational activities.
• Maintains current competency and registry (ARDMS or CCI) in the two specialty practices.
• Demonstrates initiative in personal and professional development, including compliance with mandatory education standards.
• Participates in the departmental QA process and National Accreditation process.
• Modifies behavior/performance to meet changing hospital/departmental goals.
• Complies with departmental and hospital policies, including maintaining a clean environment and practicing infection control.
• Promotes patient, visitor, and personnel safety while maintaining confidentiality.
• Collaborates effectively with all members of the healthcare team.

Requirements

• Six months of related experience.
• Ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication skills with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare staff regarding Cardiac Ultrasound results.
• Ability to serve in an on-call rotation after regular business hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED (required).
• Graduate of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program (preferred).

Certification & Licensure

• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
• BLS certification.

Schedule

Nights (3×12), 36 hours per week for 13 weeks.
