Highlights
The Cardiac Technician assists the nursing staff in monitoring the heart rhythms of patients on telemetry. The ability to interpret dysrhythmias and respond quickly and appropriately in the notification of nursing staff is essential. Some record keeping and posting of rhythm strips may be required. This position is also responsible for working as a team member within the Non-Invasive Cardiology area to perform electrocardiographs. This position is also responsible for the clerical operation of the EKG area. Clerical functions include preparation of data for physician interpretation, transcription, filing and reporting to the medical record.
Education / Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior training in EKG rhythm strip interpretation preferred.
Licenses / Certifications
- BLS required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to interact with customers, peers, physicians, and other hospital staff in a professional manner.
- Possesses interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate appropriately, verbal or written.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Position requires sitting for 80% of the workday and mobility 20% of the workday.
- Occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
- Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
- Much exposure to computer work.
- Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
- Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.
- Som exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Some exposure to radiation.
