About the role

The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is recruiting a cardiovascular surgeon to join our growing, high-volume practice. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside national and international leaders in surgery, education, and research within a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of complex heart surgeries including CABG, valve, multi-valve, and aortic cases.
  • Participate in the expanding programs in transplantation, structural heart, and minimally invasive valve surgery.
  • Work closely with the Center for Heart and Vascular Research, led by Rebecca Gundry, PhD, to conduct clinical trials or translational research.
  • Manage a manageable 1:6 call schedule.
  • Teach and mentor residents and fellows in the established cardiothoracic surgery residency program.
  • Participate in active participation in TAVR, structural heart, and TEER programs.

Requirements

  • Board certified/eligible in cardiovascular surgery.
  • Expertise and primary interest in heart valve disease including minimally invasive approaches.
  • Excellent clinical skills and commitment to education.
  • A track record in minimally invasive valve operations and interest in translational or clinical research.
  • Experience with transplant and mechanical circulatory support is a plus.
