University Medical Associates (UMA) is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer II to support clinical trials research initiatives within the Division of Cardiology.

About the Role

This position will conduct diagnostic echocardiogram exams on clinical-trial participants, analyze hemodynamic data, and support expanding Cardio-Oncology and outpatient rapid-access clinic efforts. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform adult echocardiography studies, including imaging enhancement agents and bubble studies, to measure cardiovascular health and interpret hemodynamic data (35%).
  • Support outpatient Cardio-Oncology and rapid-access clinics several days per week (35%).
  • Complete training, documentation, and administrative tasks for the clinical trials team; upload DICOM images to sponsor-provided platforms and fulfill feasibility, training, and competency requirements (20%).
  • Schedule and communicate with clinical trial subjects; coordinate inpatient or post-procedure TTE requests with MUHA sonographers and leadership (10%).

Requirements

  • Two years of adult echocardiography experience.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer credentials (RDCS or RCS) and BLS certification.
  • Graduate of a formal Cardiovascular Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (preferred) or an Associate’s Degree (or certification program in lieu of degree).
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Skills

  • Ability to complete department-specific and research-protocol validation and competency testing.
  • Knowledge and skills to modify care according to patient age and interpret age-specific needs.
  • Strong verbal communication to convey observations to research staff, physicians, and department staff.
  • Familiarity with PACS and EPIC EMR (preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous standing, sitting, walking, bending at the waist, and fine/gross motor activities with hands.
  • Frequent reaching overhead, twisting at the waist, squatting, and working in confined/cramped spaces.
  • Infrequent climbing stairs, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., and exerting up to 50 lbs. of force (e.g., patient transfers).
  • Continuous visual acuity (20/40 corrected), color discrimination, depth perception, and hearing acuity (with correction).
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex-safe environment.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and maintain tactile sensory functions.

Schedule

Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday–Friday, days (approximately 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with fluctuations based on study needs).
