Cardiac Device Specialist I

About the Role

The Cardiac Device Specialist I is a member of the Cardiovascular Medicine team. The Device Specialist will be responsible for providing thorough, competent interrogations and reprogramming of implanted cardiac devices in outpatient settings. The Device Specialist also triages transmissions and alerts for patients enrolled in remote monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Utilize knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology and biomedical engineering concepts to assess technical function of patients' Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED) and how diagnostic data relates to the clinical picture.
• Use device and clinical knowledge to set up, operate, and troubleshoot various CIED programmers.
• Accurately identify malfunctions, alerts, and sub-optimal device operations and follow up appropriately with provider teams.
• Manage patients enrolled in remote monitoring services, triage alerts, and communicate with the provider’s aligned nursing team for plan of care.
• Create and maintain a supportive work environment for the entire team and an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
• Maintain clinical relevance by keeping current on a variety of clinical and healthcare topics.
• Maintain 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually.
• Perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Science-related field.
• Successful completion of a cardiac device rhythm management course or equivalent experience within 6 months of hire.
• High School Graduate (Direct experience of 3 or more years may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree).

Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 60 days of hire.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 60 days of hire.
• Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation to various outreach clinics.

Preferred Experience

• 2 or more years of Cardiology or biomedical engineering experience.
