Responsibilities
- Assist cardiologists during cardiac catheterization procedures, which involve threading catheters through blood vessels to diagnose and treat various heart/cardiovascular conditions.
- Ensure that all necessary equipment, including catheters, monitors, and imaging devices, are properly set up and functioning before each procedure.
- Help prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring they are comfortable and properly positioned on the procedure table.
- During procedures, monitor patients' vital signs, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and hemodynamic data to ensure their safety and provide real-time information to the medical team.
- May scrub in and assist the physician directly during the procedure, handling catheters, guidewires, and other equipment as needed.
- Accurately document all aspects of the procedure, including patient information, medications administered, and any complications that arise.
- Help transfer patients to recovery areas after the procedure, monitor their condition and provide any necessary post-procedure instructions or assistance.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives and training new staff to ensure that procedures are performed safely and effectively.
- Track the par level of all instruments and supplies, and provide support for both invasive and noninvasive cardiac procedures in all capacities for the cardiac cath lab.
Qualifications
- Requires previous experience assisting with scrubbing procedures and monitoring data, preferably in a Cardiovascular Lab.
- Cardiovascular technician training program with emphasis in invasive cardiology and hemodynamic monitoring preferred.
- BCLS (AHA) required upon hire and maintain current.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Proficient computer skills.
