About the role

Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center is seeking a full‑time BC/BE Cardiac Anesthesiologist to join its team in Reading, PA. The position is full‑time (FTE 1.0) with varied hours and call responsibilities. The community offers excellent public schools, cultural amenities, and outdoor recreation within a short drive of major cities.

Responsibilities

• Work independently and supervise others (supervising approximately 99% of cases).
• Manage a high volume workload: ~6,000 OR cases annually, 700+ deliveries annually (≈50% epidural rate), and about 100 cardiac cases per year.
• Provide anesthesia for a broad range of surgeries including orthopedics, OB/GYN, urology, neurosurgery (≈95% spine), cardiology (TAVR, Watchman, ASD/PFO), and pediatrics.
• Call schedule is 1:4 with a post‑call day off.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain a Pennsylvania medical license.
• Ability to obtain valid federal and state narcotics certificates.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree.
• Board‑certified/Board‑eligible in Anesthesiology.
• Completion of a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship or TEE certification.

Pay

Base salary $610,000 with opportunity for incentive bonuses.
