Responsibilities
- Rigorously analyzes underwriting information in assessing risk for each account.
- Uses creative underwriting tools and techniques to write profitable business while adhering to underwriting standards.
- Communicates the rationale behind underwriting decisions.
- Finds ways to write profitable new business without compromising quality.
- Participates in all aspects of program management including actuarial pricing, claim or TPA oversight, reinsurance accounting, and collateral management.
- Maintains a deep understanding of the business and demonstrates responsiveness and dedication to customers.
- Influences and negotiates with internal and external partners to achieve positive program results.
- Manages programs to achieve underwriting excellence, pricing adequacy, and targeted ROEs.
- Leverages relationships to drive new business and renewal retention opportunities.
- Builds strong relationships with Captive customers and managers.
- Closely manages results and implements specific actions to address shortfalls.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 5+ years of Auto Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and General Liability underwriting experience; loss-sensitive underwriting experience preferred.
- Construction underwriting experience desirable.
- Experience with Captive insurance programs desirable.
- Strong Excel and math skills.
- Strong loss-responsive or captive program and pricing knowledge.
- Superior coverage knowledge.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, including influencing and negotiation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding customer service abilities.
- Approximately 10%-25% travel expected.
