Responsibilities
- Participates in department strategic planning activities.
- Establishes goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Prepares management and administrative reports.
- Consults with management staff, members of the public, legal advisors, and representatives of other agencies.
- Interprets and advises on policies, rules, and regulations.
- Plans, develops, and recommends programs and operational enhancements.
- Analyzes and recommends approaches to address current and anticipated law enforcement challenges.
- Identifies trends and developments in law enforcement and recommends changes in organization, staffing, and operating procedures.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations and provide seamless quality customer service.
- Ensures Bureau employees are meeting goals.
- Forms partnerships with community members and organizations to promote community policing.
- Represents the department in projects or programs involving other agencies or jurisdictions.
- Prepares and conducts presentations to governmental agencies, the media, community groups, and a variety of civic organizations.
- Supervises bureau sworn and civilian staff directly and through subordinate supervisors; includes hiring, performance evaluations, performance improvement, corrective action, transferring, promoting, assigning of duties, rewarding, disciplining and terminating employment; exercises independent judgment to direct others’ work; and, utilizes skills to communicate, motivate, and direct or oversee a person, group, department, or organization.
- Supervises employees during the performance of critical incident functions which require employees to carry firearms, perform emergency medical, lifesaving and fire suppression activities.
Requirements
- Education, Training and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in police science and administration, public administration, business administration, political science, or a related field. Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in a municipal or county law enforcement agency, including five years of supervisory responsibility in a middle management capacity. Twelve (12) years' law enforcement with experience at, comparable to, or above the level of Lieutenant at the Caldwell Police Department.
- Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: Possession of a valid and current Idaho driver's license. Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- Special Requirements: Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including prescription medications).
- This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including post-offer testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident testing. Successful completion of a pre-employment Caldwell Police background check which includes reference checks, polygraph test and criminal history checks.
Qualifications
- I have a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in police science and administration, public administration, business administration, political science.
- I have ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in a municipal or county law enforcement agency, including five years of supervisory responsibility in a middle management capacity.
- I have twelve (12) years' law enforcement with experience at, comparable to, or above the level of Lieutenant at the Caldwell Police Department.
- I am in possession of a valid and current Idaho driver's license.
- I have an Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- I have an FBI National Academy Graduate, Northern Western School of Command College Graduate, FBI Command College Graduate, Senior Management Institute of Policing Graduate, or any Accredited POST Management Course.
