About the role
The University Police Department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for the campus community. The Captain for Administration and Operations Bureaus oversees two bureaus that provide 24/7 professional police services.
Responsibilities
- Manage department programs within their areas of responsibility
- Provide leadership and management to operational units
- Apply principles and practices of modern public safety administration
- Assist the Chief of Police in promoting a community-oriented policing model
- Work closely with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders
- Ensure adherence to a community-oriented policing strategy
- Maintain regular contact with law enforcement and public safety organizations
- Build strong alliances and identify best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in law enforcement and management
- Valid California Driver's License
- POST Management Certificate

Benefits
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. San José State University offers a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of base salary.
Pay
Classification: Administrator III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $15,051/month - $15,435/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,891/month - $22,119/month
