Capstone Nursing Instructor - NCLEX Coaching Experience

About the Role

Faculty members are responsible for delivering quality education services, engaging students, fostering learning, and role modeling professionalism to produce competently trained students prepared for professional careers. This includes collaborating with the Associate Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, and other campus faculty and staff to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of assigned courses.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course plans and materials.
  • Facilitate NCLEX review sessions and workshops focusing on test-taking strategies, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.
  • Deliver course lectures, facilitate labs, and/or clinical rotations.
  • Provide guidance on test-taking strategies and critical thinking skills specific to the NextGen NCLEX exam.
  • Monitor equipment and supply needs; maintain classroom.
  • Stay current with NCLEX test plan updates, best practices in nursing education, and evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Arrange for an approved substitute in case of absence.
  • Enforce HCI policies (attendance, dress code, clinical policies, etc.).
  • Participate in orientation, graduation, and pinning ceremonies (full-time faculty required; part-time requested).
  • Contribute to retention plans and program development.
  • Attend staff and faculty meetings (full-time faculty required; part-time requested).
  • Participate in committees and knowledge-sharing forums (full-time faculty required; part-time requested).
  • Facilitate student engagement and assess student progress in achieving theory and performance requirements.
  • Monitor student progress and provide follow-up as needed.
  • Submit weekly feedback reports to the ADON, DON, SVPAA, and Group Campus President/COO.
  • Maintain relevant licensures, certifications, and required personnel file documentation.
  • Complete a minimum of eight (8) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually through professional development and in-services.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review feedback, and use it to improve course delivery.
  • Ensure regular and reliable attendance.
  • Participate in ACEN and other accreditation activities.
  • Comply with all governmental regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing (BSN or equivalent) from an accredited nursing program (Required).
  • Master’s degree with a major in nursing (MSN or equivalent) from an accredited nursing program (Preferred).
  • Current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license issued by the Florida Department of Health (Required).
  • Current and active Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (Required).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught (per ACCSC).

Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Strong teaching ability and experience managing students’ clinical and skills lab activities.
  • Computer literacy, including functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to manage people and projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of course content.
  • Effective in directing and evaluating student learning and lab performance.
  • Prepared in educational theory and techniques.
  • A willingness to follow high ethical standards.

Workload Expectations

  • Workload depends on faculty classification.
  • Faculty must start and end on time for assigned courses, clinicals, and lab hours.
  • Prior approval from the ADON/DON is required for overtime.
  • Teaching may include:
    • Didactic/classroom instruction
    • Clinical/offsite or onsite active patient/mannequin care experience
    • Lab/Simulation/Active Learning experiences
  • Full-Time Faculty are required to:
    • Teach a minimum of 30 hours per week.
    • Attend meetings.
    • Participate in accreditation activities.
    • Serve on committees.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The physical demands include those required in a professional office setting and higher education teaching environment, as well as activities typical of a professional nurse: communicating with coworkers, presenting to students, demonstrating procedures and techniques, and moving between classes and offices. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Working Environment

Professional office setting with moderate noise levels and a controlled indoor climate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Location

This is an onsite position based at the West Palm Beach (Main Campus). Any changes to the location must be reviewed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with final approval from the President/CEO.
