Capital Projects, Quality Manager
About the role
The Capital Project QA Manager oversees quality management systems, procedures, and documentation for large-scale capital projects and smaller scale improvement/developmental projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, regulations, and safety standards. Key duties include developing QA program/QC plans, conducting site audits, managing contractor compliance, and mitigating risks.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Quality Planning: Develop and implement Sila’s Quality Management Plan (QMP) tailored to owner requirements, industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001), and regulatory mandates. Develop, implement, and enforce a project-specific Quality Assurance Plan and QC protocols for construction, materials, and equipment.
- Audit & Compliance: Conduct systematic internal and external audits to verify adherence to established protocols and technical standards. Perform on-site quality inspections and audits to verify adherence to design drawings, specifications, and codes.
- Vendor & Contractor Oversight: Review and validate contractor quality plans, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and material certifications to ensure vendor performance. Liaise with contractors, engineering designers, and vendors to ensure quality standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, test results, and quality incidents, providing regular, detailed reports to project stakeholders.
- Defect Management: Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and develop Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to resolve quality risks before they impact timelines.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for quality issues between the owner, engineering teams, and construction partners.
- Reporting & Metrics: Monitor and report on key quality performance indicators (KPIs) and trend analyses to senior management.
- Continuous Improvement: Facilitate lessons-learned sessions to improve quality management processes for future project phases.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Typically 7–10+ years of experience in QA roles specifically supporting large-scale industrial or capital projects.
- Certifications: Highly preferred credentials include ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in project and defect management tools.
- Analytical: Ability to interpret complex technical specifications and identify patterns in defect data.
- Communication: Strong skills to foster a quality-driven culture and negotiate resolutions with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Risk Management: Proactively identifying potential quality failures and developing mitigation strategies.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
- Move long distances (such as from building to building) and be stationary for extended periods of time
- Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a laptop, copier/printer, etc in a fixed location
Pay
The starting base pay for this role is between $151,000 and $191,000 at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
