Capital Projects & Infrastructure Senior Consultant (Transportation)
About the role
The Capital Projects & Infrastructure Consulting team at Guidehouse is seeking professionals with backgrounds in engineering, construction, project delivery, and related fields to support complex infrastructure projects, particularly in transportation and transit capital programs.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the capital project lifecycle (planning through maintenance and operations)
- Supports or leads project governance, including organizational and process aspects (boards/committees, interagency coordination, and third-party stakeholders)
- Manages risk, including risk register, quantitative risk modeling, root cause analysis, issue management, and prudence reviews
- Manages construction project controls, including schedule control, cost control, earned value, and change management
- Develops complex schedule analytics, including critical path method (CPM), float, schedule compression/time-cost trade-off, and change impacts
- Develops contract development and management strategies, including procurement processes, administration, and scope control
- Develops performance metrics and project reporting, including dashboards aligned to capital delivery and operational readiness
- Manages project technology, including project and portfolio management, and applications to quantify cause and effect of delays
- Develops road mapping and strategic plans for informed investment decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 3+ (THREE) years experience
- Experience directly leading client relationships and/or project teams
- Experience with federal, state, and local procurement regulations and requirements, including public-sector procurement practices common to DOT/transit agencies
- Engineering or technical expertise in project controls, project management technology, capital infrastructure, preferably within transportation/transit capital programs
- Experience drafting documents, memos, letters, and other formal communications to clients, including board-ready or stakeholder-facing materials
What would be nice to have
- Master’s Degree (MBA, MPP, MPA, etc.)
- Project Management Professional (PMP), AICP, EIT, or PE
- Experience with Federal grant funding environments, including transportation funding programs (e.g., FTA, FHWA, USDOT), and associated compliance requirements such as grant administration, reporting, and oversight expectations
- Experience managing PMIS deployment across multiple industries, including transportation/transit capital delivery organizations
- Experience with industry-leading capital planning and program/project management technologies, including but not limited to scheduling and cost tools (e.g., Primavera P6) and PMIS platforms (e.g., Aurigo Masterworks, Kahua)
