About the role

This position is responsible for the execution of complex financial analysis and business improvement in support of capital adequacy processes, including Comprehensive Capital Analysis & Review (CCAR), and enterprise-wide stress testing. The role serves as a financial leader to all Fifth Third Bancorp lines of business, assisting in the coordination of capital planning processes. It focuses on providing value-added analysis, process improvement recommendations, quality assurance, and business controls support for Capital Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the identification of key business factors (both internal and external) that impact capital planning processes.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base to keep current on existing and emerging industry issues.
  • Collect, aggregate, and analyze forecasted financials and supporting documentation from across the Bancorp.
  • Play a key role in documenting financial plans and analysis in a format appropriate for meetings with senior management.
  • Evaluate and improve the design of reports and processes to ensure analytical tools evolve as business changes.
  • Perform maintenance on existing schedules and reports for changes to information.
  • Prepare and analyze reports for all lines of business and affiliates; investigate and document unusual items.
  • Develop trend analyses and other quantitative reports to determine business trends.
  • Establish, foster, and maintain working relationships with Finance, Risk, and LOB personnel contributing to execution of enterprise-wide capital planning activities.
  • Work closely with line of business participants and other CCAR central process teams to improve the overall control environment of the capital planning process and drive consistency and sustainability.
  • Participate in complex process improvement initiatives to drive consistency and sustainability within capital planning.
  • Provide guidance to stress test participants in updating/maintaining control documentation, including process flows, approval templates, and policy/procedural documentation.
  • Verify and document compliance with the risk management/control framework supporting relevant aspects of Fifth Third's Capital Planning Process.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance CAP and actively participate in process improvement and problem resolution issues.
  • Develop recommendations and action plans to support growth and eliminate or mitigate observed risks.
  • Attend meetings with peers to maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and risks in respective focus areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP strongly desired.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting or finance-related experience in industry or public accounting.
  • Breadth of knowledge and experience in multiple lines of business within Bancorp.
  • Proficient with MS-Windows and other related PC applications.
  • Desire and ability to learn mainframe applications and automated data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to interact with personnel ranging from clerical staff to senior management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performance measurement tools and technology.
  • Ability to work both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure in a dynamic work environment that often requires management/completion of multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment as well as apply logical/critical thought processes.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature, and the like. Extended viewing of a CRT screen.
