Capital Markets Intern (Single-Family) - Summer 2027

About the role

This internship offers hands-on experience in a residential mortgage capital markets department, with real work that contributes to your resume. The program includes mentorship, project assignments, and professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside an experienced Capital Markets team to gain knowledge and support for a future career in Residential Mortgage Capital Markets
• Understand the full suite of products offered by Merchants Mortgage, including bank portfolio products, GSE Agency products, and non-Agency products, along with investor eligibility guidelines
• Learn the full life cycle of residential mortgage origination – from origination to processing to underwriting to closing to loan sale and servicing
• Understand pricing strategies and sound margin management to remain competitive and profitable
• Learn pipeline management risks and approaches to modeling pull-through, hedging interest rate risk, and executing strategies for investor commitments including agency cash sales, agency pooling, whole loan sales, and private label securitizations
• Utilize tools such as Power BI to maintain system/data integrity and produce timely, accurate reporting for business decisions
• Complete department-specific projects applying coursework knowledge to develop technical ability and emotional intelligence (soft skills)
• Deliver a final presentation of project results and business recommendations to department, team members, and executive leadership

Requirements

• Students who have completed at least their sophomore year of college; college graduates are also welcome
• High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
