DistributionFull-time

About the role

Amazon AIR is building one of the most ambitious dedicated air transportation networks in the world, designed to redefine delivery speed and selection for hundreds of millions of customers. As a Flight Capacity Planner, you will own the development and optimization of flight capacity strategies across long, medium, and short-term planning horizons, including flight schedule design, capacity allocation, and network modeling. You will lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that drive efficiency, reduce cost, and improve service performance across the air network.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will partner with leaders across Amazon AIR, including Operations, Finance, and Analytics, and directly influence senior leadership decisions that shape how millions of packages move through our network. Your recommendations will balance customer experience with cost-effectiveness, and your work will have a measurable impact on Amazon's end-to-end transportation ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Lead flight schedule development across multiple time horizons within Amazon AIR, serving as the primary point of contact for cross-functional business units including ground transportation, fulfillment centers, and last-mile operations.
  • Develop and present data-driven recommendations to senior leadership on network design changes, route adjustments, and capacity investments.
  • Develop and optimize capacity plans and network strategy, driving continuous improvement across customer experience, cost efficiency, and sustainability metrics.
  • Evaluate complex tradeoffs between customer needs and cost, building consensus across partner teams such as Finance, Operations, Process Engineering, and Procurement to drive aligned decision-making.
  • Partner with Research Science and Technology as a subject-matter expert to design and develop next-generation planning and forecasting tools.
  • Analyze flight utilization, block hour efficiency, and network performance data to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Monitor and manage flight capacity allocation across the network, ensuring alignment between demand forecasts and operational constraints.
  • Navigate ambiguity while managing and coordinating multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, taking full ownership and accountability for processes and delivering on commitments.
  • Domestic travel up to 10% of the time.

A day in the life

As a Flight Capacity Planner, you will develop and optimize flight schedule operating plans, identify new opportunities, and communicate those plans across internal teams. You will also contribute to long-term strategic recommendations for fleet deployment, gateway utilization, hub operations, and sortation capacity needs. Your day will blend data analysis, network modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. You may build flight schedules to accommodate peak volume, analyze the network to identify under-performing routes, or present capacity tradeoff scenarios to senior leadership. You will regularly partner with AIR carriers, operations, and ground transportation teams to ensure flight schedules are tightly integrated with the broader network.
