CANES Platform Engineer
About the Role
SRC has been tasked with analyzing existing OpenShift cluster deployments and designing solutions to address identified shortcomings. The team needs a mid-level engineer with Linux, Ansible, and CANES experience to assist with designing and building solutions to solve existing issues, while simultaneously establishing processes and tooling to keep clusters healthy in the long run.
Responsibilities
- Understanding existing technical limitations and customer needs
- Identifying technical solutions and testing new ideas
- Creating Ansible automation content to reduce the time it takes to integrate OpenShift clusters and supporting infrastructure with CANES network, identity, and PKI services
- Authoring technical documentation for engineers and end users
- Performing on-platform installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of deployed OpenShift clusters and applications
- Identifying new technology patterns and proposing updates to existing systems to take advantage of technology improvements
Requirements
- At least five years of experience with Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES)
- At least five years of experience in IT systems design, development, integration, and support
- Two or more years of experience with the following technologies:
- Enterprise Linux (RHEL, Rocky, CentOS)
- Ansible Automation Platform
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on waterfront platforms during all seasons, with some installation activities requiring standing or walking while lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects
- Ability to work autonomously and think through technical problems without input or influence from others
- Technical experience and expertise with a proven history of problem-solving and solution implementation
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship
- U.S. Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
Desired Skills
- Design and develop solutions for the automated integration of Red Hat OpenShift clusters with CANES network, identity, and PKI services with minimal supervision
- Analyze problem sets, perform risk assessments of existing environments, and propose solutions for reducing risk and addressing identified pain points
- Draft and validate technical drawings and support documentation, including identifying technical domains in need of attention and creating documentation from scratch
- Guide junior engineers in their professional growth, providing technical guidance and leadership to help them analyze current technologies, brainstorm improvements, and develop new solutions independently
Travel Requirements
Approximately 10% travel to remote labs and/or platforms is expected.

Pay
Estimated Starting Salary Range: USD $87,000.00/Yr. - USD $144,900.00/Yr. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
