Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Aid the Cancer Coordinator in the operation of the hospital's Cancer Registry, including managing computerized databases.
- Comply with American College of Surgeons and Commission on Cancer guidelines for an accredited Cancer Program.
- Abstract new cases from various patient records into the hospital's computerized registry database accurately.
- Support the Cancer Registry Follow-Up Clerk to achieve a follow-up rate of 90% or higher.
- Prepare for Cancer Conferences by creating case summaries, notifying relevant parties, and organizing necessary resources.
- Contribute to Quality activities by conducting audits and providing research data and statistical reports as required by ACoS.
- Collaborate with the Cancer Program Coordinator in preparing the Cancer Program Annual Report, ensuring compliance with ACoS requirements.
- Assist medical staff with using the staging system and completing staging forms as needed.
- Maintain positive relationships with medical staff, hospital staff, and department managers.
- Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
- Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling to support patient care needs.
Education And Experience
- Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- PREFERRED Education: Associate’s degree in a related field with courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and health information.
- Experience: 2+ years in an accredited cancer program with extensive knowledge of registry abstracting, SEER staging, and use of Cancer Registry software.
- Willing to substitute 2+ years in an accredited cancer program with 2+ years in an Allied Health career certificates, licenses, or registrations.
- Must be Certified Tumor Registrar / Oncology Data Specialist registered within one (1) year of employment; an additional RHIA or RHIT certification is preferred.
