Cancer Pain Lead position within the Division of Pain Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. Appointment in the Clinician Educator Line, with excellence in clinical care, teaching, administrative, and/or scholarship as the major criteria.

About the role

The successful candidate will serve as faculty lead in Cancer Pain Medicine, expanding access to specialized oncologic pain care through outpatient visits, procedures, and inpatient consults. This role strengthens collaboration across oncology, palliative care, and interventional pain services to reduce treatment delays and advance Stanford’s leadership in integrated, patient-centered cancer pain management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert consultation and treatment for patients with cancer-related pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with oncology, palliative care, and interventional pain colleagues to ensure seamless, comprehensive care.
  • Perform advanced outpatient pain procedures to enhance patient outcomes and reduce care delays.
  • Contribute to clinical education of fellows, residents, and medical students in cancer pain management.
  • Participate in clinical or translational research initiatives related to oncologic pain.
  • Serve as faculty lead in the development of a Cancer Pain subspecialty program within the Division of Pain Medicine.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent, with fellowship training in Pain Medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine (or relevant specialty).
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care of complex pain patients, with experience in oncology or palliative settings preferred.
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary and patient-centered care.

Pay

  • Clinical Assistant Professor: $447,000–$457,000
  • Clinical Associate Professor: $471,000–$481,000
  • Clinical Professor: $494,000–$515,000

This pay range reflects base pay, based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs. The pay offered will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, and external market pay.
