Responsibilities

  • Contributes to organization success targets for net operating margin.
  • Participates in cost containment efforts through efficient use of supplies, services, and time management.

  • Has clinical and social contact with patients, including all age groups, and is able to appropriately assess, care for and treat them according to the guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service.
  • Accurately transcribes Physicians' Orders as per unit policy, completing all order entry procedures, forms, requisitions, and communications necessary to implement orders.
  • Orders entry messages, validates and obtains results.
  • Accesses compliance checker for ABN forms when indicated.
  • Scans patients records into Epic at each visit.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients and families.
  • Answers customer's questions related to the admission process, insurance and billing questions.
  • Responsible and accountable for patient scheduling and placement based on type of treatment, patient acuity and special needs.
  • Responds to and resolves patient and department issues related to coding, billing, supplies, information systems.
  • Facilitates daily operations of the work unit.
  • Provides orientation and training for staff as indicated.
  • Develops and produces and distributes all department statistical reports.
  • Works cooperatively with Patient Accounting, Patient Registration, and Health Information Management to assure accuracy of charges, insurance information, billing and diagnosis codes and documentation to achieve maximum reimbursement.
  • Maintains/obtains adequate supplies and equipment to support the functioning of the unit.
  • Facilitates unit operations day to day.
  • Actively participates in department special events for the community.
  • Promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow health team members as well as patients and their families.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma Required.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology course.
  • Graduate of a Medical Office Professional course, Medical Assistant Program or Covenant Health Unit Coordinator preferred.
  • Minimum one to two years HUC or Medical assistant experience required.
  • Computer competency, including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work well with the public and able to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations.
  • Sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
