Cancer Biology Professor

About the role

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, in the College of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Davis, invites applications for a tenured Professor at the Associate or Full Professor level in Cancer Biology. Candidates whose research focuses on fundamental questions in cancer biology at the molecular, cellular, and/or organismal level—investigated through laboratory and computational approaches—are encouraged to apply.

We are particularly interested in candidates whose research augments existing cancer-related research in the department, including but not limited to approaches tackling modern problems in metabolism, cell death, immunotherapy, microbiome, inflammation, and chromosome biology.

Appointment will be at the tenured Associate or Full Professor level, depending on experience and qualifications, in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (College of Biological Sciences) with a joint appointment in a suitable department of the School of Medicine and membership in the Integrated Cancer Biology Program of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. The successful applicant will hold a renewable appointment to the Albrecht Endowed Chair in Basic Science.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research in cancer biology at the molecular, cellular, and/or organismal level.
• Maintain a vibrant research program with strong extramural funding, particularly from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
• Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses or seminars, demonstrating excellence at both levels.
• Participate in department, college, and university service as a member of the UC Davis Division of the Academic Senate under the faculty shared governance model.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent with significant post-doctoral experience in cancer biology.
• Tenured or equivalent position with a track record of productive independent research and current NCI funding.
• Excellence in research that complements or extends existing strengths in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
