HybridBusiness DevelopmentFull-time

We are PEAK6, a leading investment firm using technology to find a better way of doing things. The company’s first tech-based solution was developed in 1997 to optimize options trading, and over the past two decades, the same formula has been used across a range of industries, asset classes, and business stages to consistently deliver superior results. Today, PEAK6 seeks transformational opportunities to provide capital and strategic support to entrepreneurs and forward-thinking businesses. PEAK6’s core brands include PEAK6 Capital Management, PEAK6 Strategic Capital, Apex Fintech Solutions, FOCUS, We Insure, Evil Geniuses, Poker Power, Zogo, and Bruce Markets.

About This Role

Build a new company with PEAK6 — paid roles for Austin students, Fall 2026.

We're launching a new business under PEAK6 that gives students the opportunity to teach their peers poker — as a way to build strategic thinking, decision-making under uncertainty, and confidence. You would be on the ground floor, building the thing itself with us. This is a PEAK6 company — not a UT program, and not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Texas. We're starting here because we want students building it and students learning from it. No money is exchanged and nothing is wagered in the poker play itself. Gambling of any form is expressly prohibited. You get paid; the games do not involve stakes. These are skill-building lessons.

Jenny Just co-founded PEAK6 in 1997 with $1.5M as a proprietary options trading firm. Today it's a multibillion-dollar, founder-led "company of companies" spanning fintech, finance, edtech, and insurance — every one of them a business where taking, pricing, and managing risk determines success. Poker is a fast and fun way to practice risk-taking: every hand is a bet placed on incomplete information, and you find out quickly whether you read it right. That's why Jenny has spent years teaching poker, and why she's watched what it does for people in rooms nowhere near a poker table. She has built a company around this idea before and seen it work. The next one she wants to build is this one — and she wants students to build it with her.

Responsibilities

We are hiring for 2 different roles:

Track 1 — Student Founders (2-3 Positions)

  • Build and manage the business at UT
  • Work directly with Jenny Just, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of PEAK6, and her team to set the strategy — what this looks like, who it reaches, how it grows
  • Launch it, then run it
  • Recruit students and build a community from nothing
  • Help us hire and lead the student teachers under you
  • Host one to two sessions per week
  • Secure space and campus partners — or use our Austin office
  • Build the marketing plan and execute it
  • Track participation and grow it

Track 2 — Student Teachers (10+ Positions)

  • Teach beginner lessons one to two times a week
  • Recruit the students who attend, and grow the program from zero
  • Deal and teach poker games, with some light support from professional poker instructors as needed
  • Help create a room people want to come back to

Why Poker

Poker rewards the player who acts on probability rather than waiting for certainty. That instinct translates directly to founding a company, raising money, negotiating, and leading.

Requirements

  • Extremely entrepreneurial, a self-starter
  • Charismatic and organized
  • Comfortable walking up to strangers and recruiting them
  • Interested in startups and leadership
  • Know how to play poker, and feel confident dealing and hosting a game (you do not need to be an expert)
  • Want to build something that has your fingerprints on it
  • Open to students — any year, any major, any gender

Benefits

  • Paid hourly and bonus eligible — up to 20 hrs/wk for student founders and 10 hrs/wk for student teachers
  • Real ownership of how this runs, who it reaches, and how fast it grows
  • Direct access to the team at PEAK6 — the operators building these companies every day, including space to work in our office
  • Some training from professional poker instructors, at no cost to you
  • Everything you need to run your own games (like cards and chips)
