This recruitment is open to both external and promotional candidates. Promotional candidates will receive seniority points added to final passing scores (.25 of a point for every year of classified service, up to a maximum of 5 points). The eligibility list will be used to fill current and future vacancies and will remain active for one year or until cancelled.

About the role

Under general direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and secure school site environment by monitoring campus buildings and grounds. Ensure student compliance with school and district policies, rules, and regulations. Monitor and supervise students on campus and at school events.

There is currently one 6-hour/day, 10-month position open at Jefferson Middle School.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol, monitor, and supervise campus activities to ensure the well-being and safety of students, staff, and visitors.
  • Assure compliance with school and district policies and regulations.
  • Learn, interpret, explain, apply, and enforce rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate security situations and incidents; determine and take appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Observe, detect, and deter improper behavior and unlawful activities.
  • Maintain routine records and reports related to assigned activities.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Represent the district in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Valid California Class C driver’s license.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of responsible experience working with students, in security, preferably involving contact with secondary-aged students.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic methods and procedures of patrolling buildings and grounds.
  • Basic methods of individual and group supervision.
  • Techniques used in guiding and motivating students.
  • Appropriate and effective approaches to discipline.
  • Crowd and traffic control techniques.
  • Adolescent behavior, behavior shaping, and modification strategies and techniques.
  • District, state, and school laws, rules, policies, and regulations related to campus security and safety.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques and health and safety regulations.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to understand, carry out, and give oral and written instructions.

Schedule

6 hours per day, 10-month position.
