Campus Safety Officer

About the Role

Ohio Christian University is seeking a full-time Campus Safety Officer to provide security for academic, residential, and administrative buildings. This position also involves offering general and emergency support services while maintaining a safe and supportive campus environment. The role is classified as an essential employee, requiring the officer to be on duty as scheduled, regardless of campus closures.

Responsibilities

• Perform security duties, including patrolling, monitoring surveillance systems, and ensuring the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors.
• Check for unauthorized persons, safety hazards, and general security violations.
• Enforce traffic and parking regulations, and issue tickets.
• Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty as needed.
• Assist with jump-starts and other public assistance requests.
• Report all problems or emergencies to an immediate supervisor and document incidents with written reports.
• Maintain a daily shift log and document all activities during the shift.
• Act as a first responder in emergencies and serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.

Requirements

• High School diploma or Associate’s degree.
• Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience.
• Current OPTA 20hr Private Security Firearms Certificate or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Proactive with excellent customer service and strong human relations skills.
• Ability to interact positively with a diverse university population.
• Team-oriented mindset.

Skills

• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Capable of walking foot patrol routes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for report writing.
• Able to operate phones, radios, and a motor vehicle.

Schedule

Evening and possible overnight shifts, Monday through Friday. Schedule is subject to change to accommodate the needs of the university.
