About the role
The Campus Safety Officer will assist in providing campus-wide public safety for college staff, students and visitors in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency personnel. Duties include patrolling campus property while enforcing safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing campus-wide public safety for college staff, students and visitors in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
- Patrol campus property, observe and report suspicious or criminal activity and enforce safety regulations.
- Audit and identify potential problems or malfunctions of fire safety equipment and devices, including but not limited to fire suppression devices, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers and fire doors.
- Respond to emergency situations, obtain essential information and submit the appropriate incident reports and safety notices as needed.
- Assist campus visitors with directions and contact information as requested.
- Unlock rooms and offices as directed or per departmental policy.
- Assess and identify potential problems or malfunctions of fire safety equipment and devices, including but not limited to fire suppression devices, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers and fire doors.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge and understanding of all procedures and policies.
- Provide safety escorts for faculty, staff, students and guests when reasonably requested.
- Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
- Notify college administrators within their chain of command regarding critical incidents on and around campus.
- Work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Class E driver license.
- Must be willing to work an eight-hour or ten-hour shift.
- Must be willing to work special events as necessary.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Two years related work experience.

- Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
- Proficiency with the following but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
- Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
- Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
