Campus Safety Officer (2026)
About the role
Campus Safety Officers assist sworn Police Officers with maintaining safety and security on District properties, including buildings and grounds. They provide a uniformed patrol presence and respond to non-emergency calls.
Responsibilities
- Assists sworn Police Officers with maintaining safety and security
- Provides a uniformed presence on District properties
- Patrols assigned areas using various modes of transportation
- Writes crime or incident reports for minor incidents
- Controls access to buildings and parking lots
- Operates a two-way radio and assists with parking enforcement
- Assists at crime scenes and command posts
- Performs other related duties as requested
Requirements
- One year of previous work experience performing security responsibilities is desirable
- A valid driver’s license
- Valid basic first aid, CPR/AED, and pepper spray certifications within six months of hire
- Completion of a training course pursuant to California Senate Bill 390 within one year of hire
- A Community Emergency Response Team Certification (CERT) is desirable
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience as a security guard or active military personnel; impeccable observational skills and the ability to recall detailed information under pressure; effective oral and written communication skills; the ability to understand and interpret maps and directions; exercise sound decision making and safely perform the duties of the position; a strong customer service orientation and an interest in meeting the needs of stakeholders; and a high level of integrity and ethics.

Pay
The posted salary for this role does not reflect the one unpaid furlough day per month that will take effect on July 1, 2026. The additional 5% pay differential applies to variable scheduling.
Schedule
Campus Safety Officers may be assigned to day, swing, or graveyard shifts, weekends, and holidays in accordance with the terms of their collective bargaining unit agreement.
