About the role
The Campus Programming Coordinator will develop and provide co-curricular and extra-curricular programming opportunities that will enhance the experience and learning for SJSU’s student population. The incumbent creates, markets, and implements programs that help students integrate into the SJSU campus. As a member of the Student Involvement staff and the Division of Student Affairs, the incumbent will plan, implement, and support large-scale campus-wide programs, general programs, and initiatives to enhance the overall student experience at SJSU.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement the major campus-wide programs (i.e., Finals Programming, Fall Weeks of Welcome, Spring Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming Week, and other social/educational/cultural programmatic options, etc.)
- Plan and implement academic and social campus-wide programming that supports additional student populations, in particular on-campus housing students, commuter students, international students, non-traditional students, etc.
- Market events and programs via SJSU programming platforms, printed material, social media, etc.
- Work collaboratively with campus departments to plan and implement campus programs.
- Serve and participate in department, division, and university committees and initiatives.
- Provide direction, hiring/interviewing, training, and support for student assistant employee(s).
- Audit students' needs for co-curricular programming that will help them achieve their educational goals in alignment with CAS standard learning outcomes and university learning goals.
- Collaborate with academic departments and colleges to market academic resources and programs beneficial to students.
- Create intentional learning experiences that will help students socialize outside their cultural groups and integrate into campus community life.
- Collaborate with and support student clubs and organizations in partnership with the Student Involvement Student Engagement team.
- Implement assessment tools and present assessment results related to the effectiveness of delivered programs.
- Support general events and programs within Student Involvement, the Dean of Students, and Student Affairs.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
- Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
- A master’s degree in student affairs/higher education, counseling, international studies, international relations, or related field preferred.
- Experience planning major programs and events.
- Experience delivering workshops and facilitating dialogues.
- Experience collaborating with campus partners.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of student transition and student development theories.
- Knowledge of student supervisory best practices to aid in growth and development of student staff.
- Ability to assess the needs of diverse student populations.
- Ability to facilitate conversations and dialogue with diverse student populations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff in a wide variety of university committees, departments and/or student organizations to develop and implement programmatic initiatives.
- Ability to advise students individually and in groups.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to work well with a highly diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to leverage resources and staff from across the campus to plan and implement programs.
- Knowledge of understanding and applying learning outcomes.
- Ability to initiate, plan, implement, and evaluate events as well as ongoing programmatic efforts.
- Skilled in various Microsoft Office and Google programs.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply a variety of County, State, Federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and procedures.
- Thorough mastery of English grammar, business writing, punctuation, and spelling.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
- Appropriate judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to reason logically; ability to collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate data.
- Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
