Campus Police Security Officer (Full-Time)
Position Summary
John A. Logan College is seeking a Full-time Campus Safety Officer to work in the Campus Police Department. The Campus Safety Officer supports the mission of John A. Logan College by maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful campus environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age 21
- Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license
- Must pass a background check and security clearance
- Must have or obtain an Illinois PERC card within 6 months of hire
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to perform assigned routine physical inspections of campus safety equipment
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Must be able to complete 8 hours of defensive tactics and de-escalation training annually
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic security practices, safety regulations, and operational guidelines
- Knowledge of emergency procedures, including medical, fire, and safety protocols
- General knowledge of security technology and ability to use related equipment and tools
- Strong observational skills
- Basic problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in high-stress situations
Summary of Duties
- Campus safety patrol
- Emergency response and incident management
- Security monitoring
- Reporting and documentation
- Community engagement and support
- Collaboration with college departments, students, and external agencies
- Participation in department meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Frequent walking, standing, and patrolling of campus grounds
- May involve exposure to high-stress or rapidly changing situations
